This week’s Curious Kansan segment takes us to “The Best Square Mile on Earth”. Lindsborg, Kansas home to the beloved Svensk Hyllningsfest. This unique biannual celebration honors the town’s deep Swedish heritage and transforms Lindsborg’s main street into a vibrant cultural stage filled with music, food, and traditional performances.

One of the most cherished traditions is Swedish dancing, not just a performance for the festival, but a part of the community’s identity. In Lindsborg, students begin learning Swedish dance at an early age as part of the school curriculum. Each year, the routine becomes more intricate, building both skill and cultural connection. By their senior year, students have the incredible opportunity to travel to Sweden and showcase the dances they’ve spent years mastering.
